Ah, Valentine’s Day.

The day to celebrate our other halves, friends or even families through romantic cards, presents and maybe even a marriage proposal or two.

After Christmas, Valentine’s Day is the next big holiday for brands and businesses to target their customers for romantic promotions, prompting you to treat your other half with one of their fantastic product/service deals.

But in the PR world, we’ve been lucky enough to see some great campaigns from a number of renowned brands, including the following:

Poundland’s £1 Rings

This year, Poundland have released their own engagement rings for lucky shoppers.

The High-street chain has designed the £1 rings to be used as ‘placeholders’ for those wanting to propose before they invest in a “real rock”.

Called the ‘Bling Ring range’, the retailer has stated that they have sold 20,000 in the space of just seven days.

It is a concept that has brought the store widespread publicity, with Piers Morgan even “proposing” to Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid live on air.

Frances O’Sullivan from Poundland said: “These are beautiful placeholder rings because we know they’ll want to buy their own. Our Bling Ring is setting the scene for the real deal.”

However, this isn’t the only Poundland campaign to cause a stir.

Last year, Poundland launched “dine in for two” Valentine’s Day menu, with a luxury £5 option or a cheaper £2 deal, involving a combination of a sandwich, crisps, chocolate bar and soft drink to share between two.

The £1 rings have caused commotion online, gaining the brand an outstanding amount of publicity over Valentine’s Day.

Lush’s Valentines Bath Bomb Collection

Shaped as some of the popular food emojis, Lush’s Valentine’s Day collection is extra steamy this year.

Whether you want to treat your partner or you’re tempted to enjoy the new collection with a hot steamy bath for one, there’s a whole range of emoji themed bath time indulgences to choose from this Valentine’s Day.

“We’re going into 2019 with big ? energy,” Lush Cosmetics captioned a photo of eggplant-shaped bath bombs in a basket.

“Just the tip…fizzes a little faster than the rest,” the brand explained in a press release.

We get the innuendos and found this to be one of our favourites for a Valentine’s Day campaign.

Lush has done well as the collection has gained national coverage since its initial release in January.

Deliveroo’s Third Wheel Campaign

In 2017, after some research, takeaway delivery brand, Deliveroo, did a “third wheel” survey questioning 2000 adults.

They found out that 37% of couples would actually quite enjoy having a third person at the dinner table.

Based on their results, Deliveroo did an ad that made it into our favourite’s lists.

The campaign offers you the chance to give your ‘single friend’ a meal alongside yours, so you don’t have to worry about them being sad on Valentine’s Day.

It also gives you a pretty good nudge on what to do on your own Valentine’s.

Just take your soulmate, your lonely best friend, and order some food. Isn’t that the best way to spend an evening anyway?

The competition includes a date night package, including a Colonel Sanders bearskin rug, two fried chicken pyjama onesies, a gift card for KFC for a year and a subscription to an online streaming service for endless date night entertainment.

This campaign is great as it really gets in with the customers at KFC and creates a massive buzz online with people sharing their hopes of winning this “date night”.
